Invitation to apply for admittance to the Postgraduate Course (MSc.) Program “Digital Media-Computational Intelligence”

The Department of Informatics at the Aristotle University Thessaloniki (A.U.Th) announces that the approved Master’s Program (MSc.) in “Digital Media – Computational Intelligence” will be offered during the academic year 2025-2026.

Interested candidates are invited to submit application to be admitted to the MSc. Program:

  1. Holders of first-cycle degrees from H.E.Is. of Greece and abroad and in particular: a. Graduates of Faculty of Sciences b. Graduates of Faculty of Engineering, and c. Graduates of other Departments in a discipline related to Informatics. Graduates who do not have the necessary background to attend the P.S.P. in “Digital Media – Computational Intelligence” may apply to be admitted as postgraduate students, provided that within a period not exceeding the first two (2) semesters they will acquire the prerequisite basic knowledge  in related courses offered in the Undergraduate Program of Studies of the Department of Informatics (as mentioned in Article 5 of this document) and in which they will have to successfully pass the examinations.
  2. Students of undergraduate programs of case 1 of this article, who are in their last semester of their studies and are expected to obtain their degree by the end of the enrolment period to the P.S.P.

The recognition of foreign qualifications for admission to a postgraduate program is done by the Academic Departments. If the first cycle of studies has been completed abroad, the candidate is not required to bring the equivalence of academic qualifications from the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (Hellenic NARIC – D.O.A.T.A.P.).  Even if an equivalence is provided, the recognition is still done by the Department.

The Department of Informatics is responsible for academic recognition of qualifications only and not of their equivalence. For the equivalence of qualifications, the responsibility remains with the D.O.A.T.A.P.

Those who have already applied for or are studying in a P.S.P., subject to the submission of an individual act of recognition by the D.O.A.T.A.P., are exempted from this obligation and their application or the continuation of their studies is considered based on the criteria of the new law.

The number of admissions to the MSc. program in “Digital Media-Computational Intelligence” the academic year 2025-2026 is set to thirty (30) postgraduates students max.

Classes are held weekly between Monday and Friday, in the afternoon.

The admission selection criteria are grouped into five parameters; each parameter is rated on a scale of zero to ten (0-10) and the individual scores are weighed with factors to arrive at the candidates’ score. In particular, the following will be considered:

I. The Grade Point Average (GPA) of the degree, the type of degree, and the quality of the candidate’s transcript of grades, with emphasis on performance in related courses to the P.S.P., with a weighting factor of forty percent (40%). The minimum degree grade for the first-cycle degree or diploma must be at least six (6) on a scale of zero to ten (0-10) or equivalent if another grading scale applies.

II. The success in the personal interview, or evaluation of candidate’s curriculum vitae (C.V.) and the ranking of the candidate among his/her peers with a weighting factor twenty percent (20%). Tahe interview evaluates the following criteria: a) Perception and judgment, b) Taking initiatives – autonomy, c) Ability to cooperate and communicate.

III. Possible publications of the candidate, with a weighting factor of twenty percent (20%).

IV. The candidates’ language proficiency is beyond level B2 with a weighting factor of ten percent (10%).

V. General research or professional activity with a weighting coefficient ten percent (10%).

After the completion of the procedure, that is, the evaluation based on a dossier of supporting documents and an interview, the final list of successful candidates is drawn up. If there are ties between more than one candidate with the same total score, the GPA is considered for their final ranking. If in this case there is also a tie, the final ranking will be based on the average grade in the courses related to the P.S.P.

Prospective students of undergraduate programs, who are in the last semester of their studies and are expected to obtain their degree within of September 2025, submit a certificate of studies instead of a copy of the degree with a transcript.  The finalization of the registration of such candidates to the MSc. Program will be concluded after the submission of their degree.
